Why can't I just resize my image to the largest size?

Resizing (or "resampling") adds pixels to your image to make it larger. The problem is that the larger your resample, the less of your original image quality is present in your print. You have a specific amount of quality and detail in your original image, and resampling will only decrease those. Careful resampling in small steps, can be an effective way to slightly increase your printable dimensions, generally up one printable size.
